[Also in Division D1] A patterned non-woven fabric is made by laying a pattern bonded needled non-woven web of a first colour on a needled non-woven web of different single or blended colour and needling the two webs together so that the fibres in the unbonded parts are needle punched through to the reverse side of the underlying fabric and the fibres in the bonded parts are only partially needle felted and do not pass through to the surface. The binder may be a gluten glue, vegetable glue or polyvinyl alcohol. The glue may be redissolved after needling the webs together so as to spread it throughout the web. A further binder, e.g. foamed acrylate resin and urea formaldehyde resin, can be applied to the completed web. Further webs may be laid on the first two prior to needling to obtain different colour patterns. The fibre length and thickness in the webs may differ. The webs may be made of red and black polypropylene fibres.</p> |
