<p>A slipway arrangement for launching a ship, which eliminates time wasting and onerous work, as well as environmental pollution from large amts. of grease, cuts out also the risk of damage to the boat and to the slipway. The slipway is formed by two tapering beams the upper surfaces of which are trimmed with strips of stainless steel to which the runners of the sledge with their surfacing pref of "Teflon" (RTM) backed by a layer of neoprene, are aligned. At the water's edge, at right angles to the beams, a cross member supports the bearings of two shafts on which two rollers rotate. The sledge which tapers correspondingly to the slipway and holds the boat in a horizontal position has on its outside faces a series of brackets holding rails at a pitch corresponding to that of the slipway rollers. Struts on each side of the slipway support pivoting hydraulic cylinders which in one alignment engage with struts on the sledge to hold the boat securely until an electromagnetic valve is operated. This detents the pressure cylinders, allowing the "Teflon"-clad runners to slide down the slipway beams, so that the lateral guide rails ride on to the tilting rollers and the boat is safely launched.</p> |
