Peristaltic pump with directly driven rollers - has gear which meshes with pinion on each roller to reduce tube wear

A peristaltic pump has a number of rollers(6) mounted in bearings in a cage which is free to rotate about the shaft (7). A gear wheel, mounted co-axially with the shaft(7) but not connected to it, drives pinions mounted on the ends of the rollers(6). As the rollers(6) rotate they are pressed against the flexible tube(8) and force the liquid inside along the tube. This method of driving the individual rollers(6) reduces the wear on the flexible tube(8) and results in a much longer service life than is the case where the cage is rotated and the rollers are driven by friction with the tube.
