PURPOSE:To provide the subject method comprsing, in treating a powdery substance containing chromium (VI) with sodium sulfide or the like while preventing elution of sodium sulfide or the like added in excess using a water-soluble iron salt at the same time, a water-soluble ferric iron salt is used as the above described iron salt, thereby making it possible to treat the powdery substance in the acidic region.
