Conditioning of oil-contg. sludge for disposal - by mixing with solid and then coating

Conditioning of waste sludges contg. mineral oil for disposal is carried out by first mixing the sludge with high-mol.-wt., porous and absorbent solids (I) to convert it into powder or granular form, and then coating it with a coating compsn. to produce a product with the required consistency for disposal. The process can be applied, e.g., to oil-contg. metal hydroxide sludges from the electroplating industry, acid resins and oil-loaded bleaching earths from used oil processing, and residues from metal working or coal treatment. The consistency of the product can be varied widely without an excessive increase in vol. Contaminants in the sludge do not interfere with the hardening of the coating.
