A coil winding machine is used in the manufacture of a summator current transformer which uses heavy copper wires with multiple wire passage through the core of the transformer. The machine simplifies the manipulation of the heavy wire which has to be fitted in sections. Every pair of sections forming a complete turn (3, 3') around the core consists of a section of wire (2, 2') forming a winding arc (4, 4') and half a straight section (5, 5'). The turn sections are as assembled symmetrical relative to each other such that all the component parts are in the opposite sense around the transformer core (1). The free ends (6, 6') which meet half way around the core are welded together.
