A sugarless coating composition for food products such as cereal based ready-to-eat foods comprising a blend of a white pyrodextrin, an edible oil- or'fat-derived oleaginous material and, optionally and preferably, a sugarless sweetener, said composition being free of mono- and disaccharides and other low molecular weight polysaccharide sweeteners and having a low dextrose equivalent value (D.E.), preferably of not more than 10.0. The coating may be prepared as a syrup containing the above ingredients and water and then applied to a food product, e.g., prepared cereal product particles, and dried. |
