The molten metal level in a continuou? casting mold is controlled by a feedback control system comprising a molten metal level detector, a controller and a servomechanism actuated the? by for adjusting the opening of the molten metal pouring nozzle. The servomechanism includes an intermediate and final piston-cylinder means operatively connected together to normally act as a unit. To cancel the offset due to disturbances, the connection between the two piston-cylinder means is temporarily cut off to manually adjust the intermediate one alone to compensate for the offset and the connection is made again to resume automatic control.
