A microprocessor is designed to incorporate the facility of increasing the maximum number of locations for date to be processed and the microprogram size according to operating requirements as dictated by execution mode and the program control system. Each operation execution unit and microprogram control section pair contain a unit forming the internal working cycle clock signal which controls the progress of the data through the individual sections. The clock generator units are all connected together via a synchronisation channel.
