Evacuating system for high rise building in event of fire - has unit which clamps around rack rod on side of building for controlled and braked descent

The unit is used for emergency evacuation of a high rise in the event of a fire. It comprises two gears with a gap between them, one gear (18) being controlled by a brake, the other (11) held in a bracket (6). The unit rear contacts a bell crank lever (7) having its other end (15) attached to a cable (13) used for suspending the escaping person in a safety harness. The unit is manually clipped over a rack rod (3) on the side of the building, the suspended weight keeping the gears closed. The descent is controlled by the two meshed gears.
