Refractory chrome-magnesia granules for prodn. of refractory components, e.g. bricks, are prepd. by (a) mixing (I) a Mg cpd. forming magnesia when calcined with (II) a finely divided chrome mineral, at least 50 esp. 90 wt % of which has a particle size below 44 u, (b) calcining the mixt. at a 1590-1820, esp. 1760 degrees C, and (c) grinding the resulting granules to a size suitable for the prepn. of granules that can be moulded and baked during the prepn. of the final prod. Only one calcining stage is used. The granules have a homogeneous, dense structure. Give refractory bricks with an s.g. and porosity similar to those of conventional bricks, and a higher strength and resistance to slag.
|
