The purpose of the design is to ensure that the tanks are adequately protected by the vehicle structure so that fuel is not spilled in the event of a collision. Maximum space is available for occupants and luggage. The petrol tanks are fitted low on the vehicle to keep the centre of gravity low. The tanks fits along the centre line of the vehicle between the vehicle seats. There is a two part mounting running along the centre of the vehicle. This holds the tank in position and increases the stiffness of the bodywork.
