The switch assembly includes a transistor electronic unit (2) and a resistance unit (3). In addition, there is an electromagnetic relay (4) with its contactor (5). The action only takes place following electronic and electromagnetic action and independent of the driver. The appts. enables lamps to be lit, or extinguished according to the prevailing light intensity. A photoelectric cell detects this and the equipment then causes light to come on or go out. The current consumption from the battery is very low and more than offset by the savings when unnecessary lamps are extinguinshed. The current is approximately 35 mA in normal operation, five times less when one lamp is lit and zero when not in operation. The resistance (3) lies between 12 and 20 kohms.
