A method is used for monitoring the progression in space and time of a physical phenomenon e.g. the wind. The appearance and/or intensity of the phenomenon is detected at several points and the direction and/or propagation velocity of the phenomenon is determined. The detector outputs are transmitted by a microwave radio link to a display on which the direction and/or velocity of the phenomenon may be viewed simultaneously. The detectors involved may be of the ionization type sensitive to gases, smokes and aerosols. Alternatively, the detector may be a dosimeter for radioactivity measurement. The wind speed may be determined by an anemometer and the wind direction by a weathercock or vane.
