<p>Oil compsns. with improved low-temp. properties comprise a major amt. of crude oil or a middle distillate (fuel oil or gas oil) and an effective amt. of a hydrogenated homopolymer of 1, 3-butadiene or a hydrogenated copolymer of 1, 3-butadiene with at least one 5-8C conjugated aliphatic diolefin, with (a) 20-100% butadiene units and 0-80% 5-8C diolefin units, (b) a microstructure (determined before hydrogenation) consisting of >50 pref. >90)% 1,4-adduct units, (c) a no. -av. mol. wt. 500-20,000 (pref. 1000-10,000), and (d) a degree of olefinic unsatn. in the units forming the polymer chain of =80% (>=5% in the case of a hydrogenated homopolymer). The additives lower both the pour paint and the "filterability temperature limit" (FTL, AFNOR M 07.042) of the oils. The prepd. additives are (i) hydrogenated homopolymers with a degree of unsatn. of 20-70% and (ii) hydrogenated copolymers contg. 20-90 (esp. 40-70)% butadiene units and 10-80 (esp. 30-60)% 5-8C diolefin units, with a degree of unsatn. of 5-40%. The 5-8C diolefin is pref. isoprene or 1, 3-pentadiene. The polymers are pref. added in a concn. of 10-100 (esp. 50-500) g/m3.</p> |
