A support (1) for the animal is made in two halves which are removable to facilitate cleaning. Sand or sawdust to attract the animal is released on to the support from openings (16) in reservoirs (17) arranged on either side so as also to guide the animal into the correct position for releiving itself in the receiver (4). The support has openings over a compartment (3) in which the sand or sawdust accumulates. The weight of the animal causes the opening of a valve to admit water at (6) to flush away the excrement and urine to a reservoir. A float switch activates a pump for evacuating the reservoir.
