<p>The steel is subjected to (a) cleaning, esp. by grinding and shot blasting; (b) electrolytic degreasing, (c) pickling, (d) mechanical scouring to remove smut, (e) electrolytic cleaning, (f) pickling and (g) Ni plating. Treatment (d) pref. uses a tampico fibre brush, or ultrasonics, and the second pickling (f) is pref. for 15-60, esp. 30 secs. Used in Ni plating processes where the smut obtd. in pickling (c) is not removed, satisfactory adhesion of the Ni coating is not obtd. The process provides a simple method of removing pickling smut, so that excellent adhesion between the Ni and the steel is achieved.</p> |
