A coloured coding system for ampoules 2 comprising one or more coloured rings 3, 4, 5 applied to the neck 1 of the ampoule over a clear, light, or bright ground coat or priming 6-9. Thus the contrast of the rings is strengthened and the recognition reliability of electronic reading apparatus used is increased, and the error rate is reduced.
