Solar cell with semiconductor layer - vacuum deposited on a reflecting substrate

A solar cell, comprising a semiconductor layer vacuum deposited on a substrate and having at least one p-n junction with electrodes connected on the anode and cathode sides, is characterised by the substrate having a reflecting surface on the side covered by teh semiconductor layer. The substrate having the reflecting surface may be of polished aluminium or copper provided with a silver layer and may have tapered depressions. The semiconductor layer has p- and n- doped silicon zones. The efficiency of thin layered cells is increased whereby the amount of semiconductor material required and the vacuum deposition time are both reduced.
