The motor vehicle windscreen or rear window frame includes an ornamental strip (4) fixed to the pane with clamps. The gap (15) between this ornamental strip and the frame (1) is covered by a roughly T-shaped edge strip (10) with a locking profile (12) on its foot (11). The foot may fit into a pouch (8) with protrusions (9) running lengthways along the pane (2) on the ornamental strip (4). The latter can be an angled profile piece, with a lug for securing the rubber strip. This combines easy installation with reliable tolerance compensation.
