Device for filling the drum or container of a washing maching or a dish washer which is programme controlled and has a pressure-sensitive switch which controls the water level in the drum, is provided with a switch which is effective to control the water level in dependence on the height rather than on the time which is selected when the pressure in the water mains is at a predetermined level.
