Storm brake for large rail mounted machine - uses compression spring to increase brake pad engagement on rail upper surface

The lower housing section (1) contains a vertically and horizontally movable brake shoe (5), with upper curved (7) and sloping side sections (8). A roller guide (11) on the housing has a turntable, vertically displaceable actuating roller (10) to engage on the curved section. A compression spring (12), pressed against an upper housing plate (13) acts onto the roller. A retraction plunger (14) to return the roller, is hinged to a working cylinder (16). A brake pad (4) positioned below the brake shoe, and hinged to it. With release of the device by wind force, the roller moves along the brake shoe and compression of the spring increases the force, with which the brake pad engages on the rail (2).
