In a steering column lock for vehicles of the kind in which a barrel lock is arranged only to release the bolt completely (to allow it to move under spring loading to the locking position) when the key 17 is withdrawn, a two-armed lever 13 is pivoted in the barrel 1, one arm of the lever bearing against the key and the other holding the barrel in the bolt-holding position until removal of the key 17 allows the lever 13 to pivot, so arranged that on re-insertion, the barrel is turned without having to move it axially against spring loading the axial movement of the barrel being achieved as it is turned by a plunger 7 in the lock housing 2 co- operating with a helical groove 9 in the surface of the lock barrel 3. <IMAGE> |
