1528655 Tiltable channel-type induction furnaces ASEA AB 24 Feb 1976 07179/76 Heading F4B In a method of heating electrically non- conducting charge material 8 by means of a sump 7 of molten metallic material in a tiltable channel-type induction furnace, wherein the sump is heated by the inductor(s) 2 of the furnace and in turn heats the charge material, gas and/or powdered material in the form of refining and/or reducing agents is injected into the sump and/or the charge material via nozzles 5 located in the furnace wall. The sump material, which normally consists of an iron, steel, copper or aluminium melt, is tapped through an opening 4 (see Fig. 7). An opening 6 is provided for charging material 8 into and tapping treated molten charge material from the furnace. The wall of the furnace may be provided with liquid cooled tubes (11, Fig. 8, not shown) at the boundary area between the sump 7 and the charge material melt 8. Examples of treating agents that may be injected into the furnace are: O 2 , N 3 , A, H 2 O, coal, FeSi, Al, Mg, oxide scale, CaO, MgO, dolomite, limestone, quartzite, ferro-alloys, nitrogen compounds, metals, oil.
|
