1528973 Converters VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN-UND STAHLWERKE-ALPINE MONTAN AG 13 Nov 1975 [9 Dec 1974] 46933/75 Heading F4B In a converter assembly comprising a converter 1, a converter carrying ring 2 which includes a pair of trunnions, a spur gear-wheel 9 mounted on one of the trunnions, and a plurality of drive gear assemblies 5-8 each including a drive pinion 18 arranged around the periphery of the spur gear and engaging the spur gearwheel; means are provided for taking up any play between the teeth of at least one of the drive pinions and those of the. spur. gear-wheel when the converter is in its upright condition, in such a manner that the spur gear-wheel is braced against rotational vibration by said pinion. As shown, the assemblies 5-8 are provided with one drive motor (12, Fig. 1) each and with one double jaw brake (14) each. The gear assembly 8 may be provided with an additional motor 15. In operation, either the motors 12 or motor 15 may be used to brace the gear-wheel. Alternatively, at least one of the pinions 18 may be moved to and away from the rotational axis of the wheel 9; or the pinions 18 and the spur gear-wheel may be in the form of helical gears which are movable into and out of interlocking engagement. |
