<p>In apparatus for coating a travelling sheet material e.g paper, simultaneously on both sides, the material is passed through a reservoir of coating composition formed in the nip between two members, one of which is a flexible blade, the other providing a more rigidly supported backing surface and then through the nip. The material is preferably deflected from its direction of travel subsequent to passage through the nip. The support surface, opposite the flexible blade, and forming the other nip member may be a rotating cylinder or a blade-like member with a flat surface contacting the material.</p> |
