<p>The end of a steel tube (1) is protected by a collar (2) during transport, so that it is not damaged e.g. during a sea voyage. The collar is made of sheet steel as a split collar, secured by wedges (6, 8) inside the tube. The end of the tube slopes, and the flange (3) of the collar slopes to match this angle. Inside the bend (4) of the flange is mounted a securing wire (5) which can be spot welded on. This wire can be of any cross sectional shape, the flange being bent accordingly. In an alternative design, a layer of resilient material is inserted between the inside of the collar and the inside of the tube, also bent round underneath the flange, covering the wire (5).</p> |
