Mfr. of a sleeve on polyethylene-coated steel pipes which are welded together, comprises surrounding the zone near the weld seam with plastics half-bushings whose length is less than the axial distance between coated ends of the welded-together steel pipes; enveloping these ends and the half-bushings with further half-bushings whose free inner dia. is greater, over the entire length, than the other dia. of the coating of the steel pipe and the (1st) half-bushings; and filling the remaining gap with a casting resin. The (1st) plastics half-bushings are polyurethane hard foam whilst the outer half-bushings are made of ABS. Reliable and water-proof connection of lengths of steel pipes is obtd. by means of a composite sleeve/bushing which covers the entire weld seam zone.
