The work transfer mechanism for a press, includes an arm (28) which extends at right angles to the movement (2) of the workpiece. This arm has a magnetic grip at one end while the other end is connected to a drive arrangement. The arm with grip and at least one other arm (29) with magnetic grip, which is used to move the workpiece from the work position (12) to an outlet (13), are attached to a guide rail (15). The guide rail with arms can be removed from the machine for repairs. The magnets used are either permanent magnet, or an electromagnets of a size required to handle the workpiece.
