The operation of the boiler plant associated with electrical power generation is monitored by using a microphone to pick up the noise level and using this as a performance indicator. The microphone output (1) is amplified (2) and integrated (3). The integrated signal is compared (5) with respect to amplitude and frequency of a reference signal source (4). The comparator output is amplified (6) to drive a display (7) and regulating stage (8).
