In bridge construction, and other beam-type structures, the assembly for hydraulic transfer of bending moments at expansion joints comprises hydraulic presses with two successive pressure compartments (a, b) separated by their pistons. At least two such presses are installed, parallel to each other, in the structure's expansion joint. The forward pressure compartment in each (a1, b1) is connected to the rear compartment (b2, a2) on the other pressure ducts. Where there are four presses in a rectangular pattern, the diagonally facing ones may be similarly interconnected. The pressure ducts may be kept under different pressure, and/or have provision for compensation. This facilitates direct transfer of bending moments.
