The easily detachable handle for saucepans and other cooking pots includes a holder (3) which has two upstanding brackets (7) which are attached diagonally symmetrical with each other and have recesses which are open on opposite sides and are cut away towards these openings. A spring (6) or spring wire can be fitted in the actual handle so that the latter can be set on the saucepan wall with the spring wire between the two parallel brackets (7) and can then be secured by a slight rotational movement which causes the spring to pass into the recesses and engage behind the rear-cut sections. This engagement can be clearly sensed and the handle is then secured. If required it can be released by a more forceful rotary movement in the opposite direction so that a damaged handle can be readily replaced without special tools or skill.
