<p>New 1H- and 2H-benzotriazole derivs. are of formulae (I) and (II) In the formulae, R1 and R2 are 3-7C s-alkyl, 4-7 C t-alkyl, 1-3C acyloxy, benzyl, 3-8C cycloalkenyl, Q(CH2)n, oxocyclohexyl or Q'(CH2)n. Q is 3-8C cycloalkyl opt. substd. by OH, 1-3C alkoxy, 1-3C alkyl or 2-3C alkanoyloxy; n = 0 or 1, Q' is 2, 3-dichlorocyclohexyl. R4 is H, halogen, CN, MeO or NO2; R5 and R6 are both H or both Me and R7 is H or NO2; with the proviso that (i) R5-R7 are H when R4 is Cl, NO2, MeO or CN and (ii) R7 = NO2 and R5 = R6 = Me when R4 = H. (I) and (II) are selective herbicides, e.g. for pre- and post-emergence control of grassy abd broad-leaved weeds in maize, cotton, soya, rice and beet crops. Cpds. (I; R4 = No2) are also useful as insect and mite ovicides. A typical (I) is 1-) 1-ethylpropyl)-4-nitro-1H-benzotriazole. In an example,, this is prepd. by nitrating 1-(1-ethylpropyl)-1H-benzotriazole with HNO3/oleum.</p> |
