REEL LAY-BARGE

The invention relates to a barge for continuously laying a pipeline on the sea bed from a reel which is mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis. The pipe as it unspools from the reel is aligned, straightened and tensioned by pipe-treating tools. The invention resides in mounting the reel near the fore of the lay-barge, and mounting the pipe-treating tools on a work platform. The work platform has its bottom end pivotably coupled to the stern of the lay-barge and its top end extending toward the reel at an acute angle with the deck of the lay-barge. The pivoted platform can be rotated by lift means mounted under the platform for controlling the discharge angle of the pipe into the water.
