<p>The present invention provides a method for the purification of air mixed with a sterilizing agent in a machine for the manufacture of sterile packages, in which machine a web of packing material is sterilized by means of a sterilizing agent in vapour or liquid form, which after having completed its sterilizing function is removed by means of a sterile air stream, the air stream containing the sterilizing agent is passed through a liquid ring compressor, in which the sterilizing agent due to a centrifugal force is mixed with liquid, and the purified air is separated from the liquid and is recycled to the machine. The present invention also provides an apparatus for the purification of air mixed with a sterilizing agent in a packing machine of the type including means for moving a web of packing material treated with a sterilizing agent, downwardly through the machine, means for forming said web into a tube during said downwards movement, a tube heater for heating said tube, a liquid ring compressor adapted to generate a stream of sterile air passing through said tube from an air nozzle disposed in the tube means for filling the tube with the desired contents and means for forming the tube into individual packages, the air inlet of the liquid ring compressor being connected to a system of hoods located in the upper part of the machine, for the collection of the air mixed with sterilizing agent flowing upwardly through the tube and the outlet opening of the liquid ring compressor being connected via a liquid separator and arranged to conduct compressed air to the air nozzle located in the material tube.</p> |
