<p>A vehicle trailer for attachment to a tow vehicle having a mechanism for connecting the tongue to the trailer that allows the trailer platform to tilt and swing. It has been found desirable in loading a single axle trailer to permit a poweroperated vehicle such as a snowmobile, lawn mower, small garden tractor or the l??e to be driven on to the rear end of the trailer platform and driven off the front end thus requiring (a) that the rear end of the trailer platform be tiltable to the ground level for loading and (b) that the trailer be pivotable to allow the front end of the platform to swing to either side and be tiltable in such transverse position to ground level for safe and convenient front end drive-off unloading. The trailer tongue that may be disconnectably attached at its forward end to the tow vehicle by any suitable trailer hitch is connected at its rear end to the under side of the trailer at a distance in advance of the trailer axle by a mechanism that includes both horizontal and vertical pivots and, is addition, intermediate its ends is releasably engaged by a locking means that couples to a holding device on the center front of the trailer for normal towing operation of the trailer and to secure i? against unwanted tilting or swinging on the respective pivots. By positioning the tongue connecting device a suitable distance in advance of the axle, the front end of the trailer when uncoupled from the tongue locking means may be swung through approximately 90.degree. to either side and by suspending the horizontal pivot a sufficient distance below the trailer platform the front end of the trailer can be tilted to ground level for front end drive-off unloading without interferring with the tongue.</p> |
