<p>A container for milk samples consists of a solid block of a non-corrodible substance such as plastic, stainless steel or a combination of >=2 different materials. Cylinders are bored into the block from below which stop short of the upper surface. A small hole on the axis of each cylinder provides the communication between cylinder and upper surface. A piston is fitted into each cylinder acting as a seal to retain the sample in the cylinder and a means to push the sample back out through the opening. The container is positioned on a flat table under the sample machine, milk from the sampler being forced into the cylinder via the opening. As each successive sample is taken, the cassette is moved so that the next cylinder comes into the filling position. The cassette can be positively located in the correct position by means of recesses which correspond to each cylinder. Information relating to each sample, such as the cow name or number or the quantity of milk obtained can be recorded on an information strip which is fixed to the front face of the cassette. This strip may be of paper or a magnetic material. Stops or a recess in the face of the piston ensure that an air gap exists when the cylinder is filled. This enables the samples to be shaken before they are recovered from the cassette. The time consuming process and possible confussion of prior art are avoided. Used to judge the quantity of concentrates to feed to each cow.</p> |
