The boiler or hot water storage tank (1) of a central heating system is enclosed ina thermal insulation jacket (2). The jacket is made of glass fibre or mineral wool and fits closely all round the sides, top and bottom of the boiler with an overlap (12). The ends of the boiler are insulated by panels of similar material supported in a metal frame. Holes and slots are cut in these end panels to fit closely around the inlet and outlet pipes. The slots are then closed with special clamps to ensure that there are no air gaps which would allow air circulation with consequent heat loss.
