High vol. pump for wine - has axial flow impeller not susceptible to blockage by sediment in cask or vat

The pump for transferring wine from a cask is built inside a tubular housing (1) with an outlet elbow (3). An electric motor mounted above the elbow drives a shaft (4) which carries an impeller. The shaft is supported in bearings on each side of the impeller. Ports (2) are cut in the wall of the housing below the level of the impeller. The pump is placed inside the wine cask or vat and the wine flows through the ports and is forced upwards by the impeller and out through the elbow. The pump is not susceptible to blockage by the sediment which accumulates in the bottom of wine casks and vats.
