The pressing process for a cylindrical barrel for a bramah lock produces the barrel (6) with a stop component (11) in one piece. The die is cylindrical with a segmental step removed from the leading circumferential lip, and is displaced axially into a closed base hollow cylindrical workpiece (13). The internal diameter of the piece (13) is equal to that of the die, and a segmental step or stop (11) is formed in the base of the piece. The barrel is intended to house a grooved core with relative rotation prevented by the stop (11) engaging the groove, and the introduction of the key releasing through relative axial displacement. Once pressed, the piece (13) may be machined to obtain a flanged (9) mouth and circular hole (10) in the base. After machining the barrel (6) may be heat-treated. The barrel (6) may be of steel, stainless steel, al alloy or plastics.
|
