For the vertical adjustment of the drawing table top (3), a telescopically displaceable, tubular hollow column (4) is provided, on which two brake plates (9) act which pass through a stand column (1) and are guided inside it. The brake plates (9) are pressed against the wall of the hollow column (4) by the two limbs (8') of a brake arm (8) under spring prestress. In order to eliminate the brake effect, a flat conical disc (19) is arranged on both sides on the outside of the stand column (1) slightly below the position of the brake plates (9), against which disc the limbs (8') run up and are spread apart when the brake arm (8) is pivoted in by foot actuation. This simple design allows easy vertical adjustability without a stable bearing without play being thereby impaired. <IMAGE>
