A circular knitting machine which can be used to produce a single-piece pantihose, has a needle cylinder rotatable to and fro for reciprocating knitting and with a decreasing and increasing mechanism, which can be used in both rotational directions of the needle cylinder and comprises a nib jack mechanism. The nib jack mechanism has patterning jacks 3 with laterally bent butts 9 in addition to the working butts 6, 7, 8 and has cam sections 32 to 38, 44 to 49 with advancing and take-down segments selectively acting on the working butts in both rotational directions of the needle cylinder to move the butts between. The machine also has a stitch transfer mechanism for forming a welt having two transfer positions. <IMAGE> |
