A process is for the mfr. of paper sized by a content of an aluminum soap of a hydrophobic carboxylic acid. The cellulose papermaking fibres are water laid at an acid pH to form a web. The web is dried on rolls having a surface temp. of 190 degrees F -250 degrees F. An aq. suspension of fibres is added to an aq. colloidal dispersion of a hydrophobic carboxylic acid and an effective amt. of a water-soluble cationic poly-2-vinylcycloamidine m.wt. >1000) as a fortifying agent. The hydrophobic carboxylic acid is deposited on fibres by the action of alum at an acid pH. The poly-2-vinylcycloamidine and the dispersion are added separately to the suspension. |
