1527142 Valves SQUARE D CO 10 Sept 1975 [17 Oct 1974] 37180/75 Heading F2V [Also in Division H1] A foot control for a switch or valve includes a treadle 8 mounted on a base 6 for movement in one direction against a bias, and a biased safety member 19 movable on said base in a predetermined direction against its bias, the movement of the safety member in said predetermined direction being necessary before the treadle can be moved in said one direction, and said predetermined direction being generally opposite to said one direction. As shown, the treadle 8 closes switch contacts 2, 3 when depressed against a spring 15 but the toe-plate portion 25 of the pivoted safety member 19 restricts access to the treadle and has to be lifted by the toe against the action of a spring 26 before the foot can engage the treadle 8. The safety member 19 also comprises an arm 21 with a notch 22 which latches under a projection (16, Fig. 1, not shown) at the side of the treadle 8, to prevent closure of the contacts 2, 3 unless the safety member 19 has been lifted. The treadle may actuate a valve instead of switch contacts. |
