<p>The device comprises a triangular housing with an access opening for the insects. This is covered by a safety screen through which all sizes of insect can pass but which prevents any undesirable contact with the electrode by persons and animals etc. The electrodes are in the form of a network and are mounted on supports which acts as bus-bars. Other electrodes are placed alternately between the electrodes; they are mounted on upper and lower supports secured to horizontal bus-bars which are insulated from the supports. The tray, with its handle, is for the removal of the bodies of the dead insects. The plane electrode is mounted with a gap of 4-8 mm from the network by insulated spacers. The presence of an insect between the electrodes is sufficient to cause an arc which electrocutes the insect. The electrodes, which form a part of the network, are kept at an alternating potential of 4000 volts; the sheet electrode is maintained at 2000 volts.</p> |
