Bogie for railway vehicle - has specially shaped sole bars which can be reversed relative to traverse for gauge conversion

The bogie traverse has a vertical pivot (2). Two almost horizontal and equal length sole bars (3) are fixed at their centres to the ends of the traverse. Two axles (4) are carried in bearings (5) on the sole bars. The centre of each sole bar is bent inwards(5), the top of the bend joining the traverse. The point of this is to adapt the bogie easily to a wider gauge (and back again). In this case the sole bars are turned so that the bend is outwards. The sole bars have cheeks to guide the axle boxes and also carry coil spring suspension for the axle boxes.
