<p>The portable power unit may be deployed to drive a rotary percussive tool e.g. a hammer drill and uses a membrane pump to convert shaft rotation into percussive energy. A piston hammer slides axially in a cylinder (35) to transmit percussive energy to an axially mobile and rotating shaft (15). The membrane-pump is driven by the same motor that drives the shaft, and creates varying pneumatic pressures in the cylinder to mobilise the piston. The centre of the membrane (28) is fixed to a follower (23) mounted about a cammed (20) section of the drive shaft (8). The follower (23) reciprocates along a shaft (8) dia. as the shaft rotates and the perimeter of the membrane (28) is fixed to the housing (1).</p> |
