<p>The retractable aircraft undercarriage has separate units for each side. Each unit consists of a wheel and axle asson an angles shaft (3) free to rotate in a sleeve (4) on the end of the main undercarriage leg (5). This leg is connected to the fuselage by a universal joint (6, 7); backed up by a shock absorber (8) flexibly mounted between the two. The operating unit (12) has its piston rod (13) flexibly supported (17) from the fuselage. Its cylinder (14) is linked to the wheel mounting shaft (3) by a universal coupling (15); to the main leg by a pin jointed bar (16) perpendicular to its axis. Undercarriage retraction /extension thus rotates the wheel assembly in its sleeve.</p> |
