On a hand loom, the formation of a shed is effected with pedals by lifting the shafts using a system of cables and pulleys. This replaces a known system of rocker bars attached to pedal levers by cords. The cable and pulley system provides great regularity in the lifting of the shafts. It promotes a strong vertical parallel movement of the shafts, without risk of jamming. The arrangement of the shafts can be changed quickly.
