Cross-rolling mill having swivelling guides - which seat slides for plain wedge-shaped tools

A cross-rolling mill comprises a pair of rotatable drums adjustably installed between interconnected upper and lower housing members so that the drum axes are vertical and perpendicular to the rolling axis. Guides are positioned on the generatrices of the side surfaces of each drum equidistantly over their respective peripheries. Each guide seats a slide which carries a tool having prfiled wedge shapes for mating with a tool on a slide of the other drum. The rotation of the drums allows setting up of different mating pairs of tools to bring them into proximity with the rolling axis so as to roll workpieces. Cross-rolling metal workpieces in the form of solids of revolution in small-lot and lot prodn. where frequent replacement of working tools is required. The mill can be built into an automatic prodn. line and reduces the additional prodn. floor area needed to store replaceable working tools. Repair, adjustment and replacement of wedge-shaped tools can be effected without stopping operation of the mill.
